Question Hybrid Battery Rebuild

Did anyone try to replace a bad cell of the hybrid battery before?

I just did it yesterday. One of the cells runs a low voltage like 6.62V but the rest of them is 7.94V. Then I put a used one bought from ebay with voltage 7.75.

Then... "Check Hybrid System", "Check VSC System", break light on with parking brake off, and the car cannot reverse.

What happened to her...?

2007 Camry Hybrid.

Do you have access to a GOOD scanner? I'm talking a pro level or factory scanner. There are several things you could have done and the answer could be as simple as a system reset but we need to know the codes and have access to battery module info to help.

Thank you for your attention David!
I don't have the scanner. I'm thinking to buy one online. Any suggestions? Does a 40 bucks obd2 reader works? Or can I just reset everything without reading the codes? humm...how to reset...

I'm sorry. It's my first time try to do this.. I mean battery repair..

Does it start at all? There is a interlock circuit built into the orange manual service disconect. If not latched fully that may be an issue. Lever locked and pushed into place. There are also interlock circuits involved in the battery cover. A low buck scanner might read that code. High end or dealer scanners can read the modules inside or other problems.

Thank you for your information. Yes. But the car can only move forward.

I'm sure that the orange high voltage disconnect was exactly plugged in. I'll check up the circuits in the battery cover as you mentioned.

Do you know how to reset it? Like resetting the hybrid battery computer or everything..

I don't think you understand the bi-directional scanners the Hillbilly and I are talking about. They start at around $4,000 and go up (a lot) from there. They can do a lot of low level system tests and checks on battery modules that a low end scanner is not capable of as well as run diagnostic tests on components to help isolate a problem. My upper end scanners have either a 2 or 4 channel lab scope as well to check data BEFORE it gets to the ECM.

If you have garbage going into the ECM, you will get garbage codes and indicators coming out. A good tech will be worth his cost as he will not be a "parts replacer" and will find the root cause of the problem.

I'm not a specialist like you guys. I'm just a college student in a strange city. My car is down, and it need to be repaired. Dealer ask it for $4000+. I cannot afford it. That's why I ask for help here. For the reset thing, only I knew is maintenance requirement reset, but i have no idea how to reset the whole system.

Find a good independent tech that is familiar with hybrids and has a good scanner. Pay them for an hour of diagnostic time (75-150 dollars) and they should be able to figure out what is wrong. Unless you somehow screwed something major up, I can't imagine the fix costing too much.
