One of the biggest changes I've made which helps mpg a lot is to increase following distance. In stop-and-go traffic, which I am in every day, I let the guy in front of me go out 4-5 car lengths before I do much of anything, then if I see he's stopping again (which is 95% of the time) I'll just coast along in E mode. Before, I was like everyone else going through the accelerate-slowdown cycle to stay right behind the car in front. I'm sure the car behind me is irritated at times, but I pretty much ignore it. Where are they going to go anyway?...another 100ft before they have to stop again? My theory is that if everyone had a mpg gauge they would be doing the same thing I am and traffic would flow much smoother. Just shows how impatient most people are.
