Question iPod Holder for TCH

I just got my iPod Holder in the mail from iStore. It's the one that fits in the cup holder with a universal mount on the end of a 6" post. It can hold the iPod or any mobile phone. A few problems. It's just a hair too big for the cup holder, I can get it in but it is a tiny bit forced. Secondly with the iPod holder in place I can't get a cup in the other side of the cup holder.

Does anyone have a better idea? I'm looking for something subtle, and not too over the top.

Thanks gang!

Steve

Somewhere in the last couple of days I saw a picture of a Camry with an Ipod mount in the console near the AUX jack and 12 volt outlet. If I can find it I'll let you know.

The 2007 Camry brochure shows a "iPod nano shown with 12-volt cradle (accessories not included)" on page 10 Camry SE, top left hand side.
I don't know where you get it from. Toyota Customer Support might help.

My iPod has an iSkin on it which takes care of any rattling and sliding around and it just hides in the little hole where the jack is. I can close the door and it is well hidden from sight. I set up the playlist that I want for the trip and don't worry about trying to change it once I start.

That's where I saw it.

How's the sound quality, compared to a CD?

Sound quality is on par with a cd, but you really have to jack up the Ipod volume, since it doesn't give the strength of output signal that the cd/fm do.

I've mostly been using mp3 cds.

Advantages...

You can have 6 cds each holding 700mb of music = 4.2 gigs aggregate
The Id3 Tag data displays on the LCD, showing Artist, Album or Track name.

p.s. with everyone talking about an Ipod holder, I'm curious, why not use the built in one @ the center console? You should have one very strange looking 'cradle' (for lack of a better term) on either side of your center console. The one on the passenger side has a 'knockout' so you can run your power/mini jack cords through the right side wall of the console and your Ipod will slide nicely into the 'cradle'. The owner's manual has the directions to remove the knockout to run your cords through, but essentially there's a piece inside the console on the right side. You remove that piece by pulling inwards, and then you can push the knockout towards the glovebox. I think it's still a good idea to have a skin on to avoid scratches on the pod.

I have been using an iPod, with a belkin adaptor pluged into the 12v outlet. It comes with a dock type plug that plugs into the bottom of the ipod. You then plug a male/ male mini plug cable between the Belkin and the the aux input in the TCH. (rather than the ipod and the aux input) Another feature, is this allows the ipod to pause, when the car is turned off, charges the ipod battery, and provides a volume control on the Belkin, that allows you to set the volume so that it is the same level for aux, cd, fm etc.

I notice no difference between sound quality this way between ipod, or mp3CDs, which I also have loaded in the changer.

I leave the ipod in the closed compartment, safe and hidden.

Is this the Belking adaptor you mention: Auto Kit for iPod w/ Dock Connector? The page seems to imply that it comes with the male/male mini plug cable included.
