Default Key not Detected Message

Twice now, while driving along, with the key fob in my pants pocket, I gotten the message on the display that says "Key Not Detected." Then the car starts beeping and a warning light also appears on the display (a small red triangle). The car does keep running (thank heavens) and if I take the key out of my pants pocket and put it in my shirt pocket, the message disappears and all is well.

My jeans (as far as I know) aren't lined with signal dampening foil so I think they shouldn't be a barrier.

Anyone else had this happen?

I haven't had that problem. But there is a warning about not having your cellphone in the same pocket/purse as the key fob. Something about interference could cause problems.

I don't have that issue as well. Maybe the battery in the key chain is low causing poor signal issues. Just a guess, I don't have anything to back that up.

Maybe the environment? Were you in the same place each time? Near a source of strong RF interference?

I was driving both times with the key in my right pants pocket. My bluetooth enabled cell phone was in the cup holder within a few inches of my pants pocket. Maybe it was that - I'll move the phone to the cubby ahead of the shifter.

Did you happen to open the car door for any reason.

I had something similar happen when I was stopped and opened the car door to spit out some mouthwash.

This seems like a logical explanation.
