Default Need help....

I have been reading this forum since it started and decided to order one from a local dealer that would custom order a Camry from Japan. Anyway, I ordered it in October and was told in late November that the factory accepted the order and it was being built in Japan but would take 4 to 6 months. The Camry has leather, NAV, and no moonroof. Back in October, a fellow member, H2O Doctor, stated he was able to order it with leather and no moonroof but it took him three months. Anyway, the saleperson calls me to tell me the car is in and gives me the VIN number and it is a Kentucky built Camry. I tell this to him and now tells me Toyota would not built me a Camry with no moonroof in Japan. I told him I know of people that have done this and he tells me it is not true. Not only that, he tells me no one can order a hybrid and get it in less than 4 months. I waited 6 months for nothing. If I knew this I would have ordered from Kentucky and saved me time and aggravation. Is there anyone out there who ordered or bought a Camry with leather and no moonroof built in Japan. Also, did anyone order and it take more than 4 months? I just want to prove him wrong. Thanks again.

This seems like a lot of hassle to me. Why bother? There are plenty of TCH in stock at most dealerships now that the rebates have been reduced. FWIW, I have a Japanese version and it has a lot of problems with squeeks and rattles. I tried to unplug something from the cigarette lighter and pulled up the entire center console. Don't get me wrong, it's a great car. I'm not sure it's worth waiting for a Japan version over Kentucky IMHO.

What do you have against the moonroof? The factory moonroof is nice.

I have a Kentucky TCH and have had none of the problems reported by some of the Japanese TCH owners with the console, etc.

I also have the moonroof and it is a nice option on warm days, where you don't want to use the AC but need just a little extra ventilation.

According to most of the information on this site, including information from those who toured the Kentucky assembly plant, the Japanese models don't have anything on the American built models. And you don't have to be concerned about the vehicle being exposed to the salty air at port and on the ship.

The 50th anniversary ones are probably all built in Japan but they probably also have moonroofs.

I am too tall, 6'4", to fit in a Camry with moonroof. Without one is no problem. I wish I could have one but my size.

I live in Ottawa, Ontario Canada. I ordered my TCH July 1, 2006 and took delivery here on 23 August. Barcellona Red, B package. No rattles , no squeeks, no problems ever. $2,000 off of list and no hassles with dealers. I bought it through a broker in Toronto who fleet deals with a Toyota dealers in the Toronto area. I had the VIN number on August 1.

If you want information on custom ordering, I can get it for you. As I stated before, I got it in less than 3 months without the moonroof and with leather and NAV. My dealer dealt directly with Toyota Corporate.

Well, I pick mine up next week. The manager called apologized for the wait and offered the car for $500 over invoice. Thanks again for the help!

It's amazing how your standards go down when the price does.
