I bet there's someone around that knows enough about programming to edit the source code.

Uh..... you're not paying for the DVD, you're paying for the software that's on it.
....but I'll be happy to sell you a blank DVD for only, say $25.

lol, I've got quite a few blank dvds. Isn't the software almost Identical though? Just with a few minor changes? Seems weird.

While I agree that the price is a bit high at more than $200, it isn't terribly out of line with a lot of software products whose maintenance upgrades cost very nearly as much as the original. Keep in mind also, no matter how you slice it, this is an auto part - aren't you used to those being artificially high anyway?

Minor changes? Mapping all the new roads in this area alone is a major undertaking. Somebody's gotta get paid for that work.

Just because you paid $300 for that iPod, you won't be able to load free music on it. Well, not legally.

I just traded my '07 TCH for an '8 Highlander Hybrid Limited, and the HiHy came with the 7.1 disk.

Is the map layout any different? Or is it still the same? I hate it... My dads got the Garmin 760, and I love the 3D layout... I wish we could get that in ours.

With the exception of not having to press the "I Agree" button it is functionally similar to the 5.1 version. The map database is supposidly updated somehow but in my area I see no differences.

I have a 2007 TCH and a 2005 Sienna both with Nav. The sienna has the 4.1 version and the TCH the 6.1. I went to my dealer and asked to look at the 2008 TCH with NAV 7.1 and in muy opinion, other than the removal of the I agree screen, my versionin the Sienna is the better of the three version because I can at least over ride it. We got our sona TomTom 720 for his Matrix and it far superior in accuracy. Although the 3-D features are nice, I would prefer accuracy and human input of inofrmation while driving. This was at a considerable lower cost than the factory systems. My neighbor has a new Ford Taurus with Nav that uses the Navteq maps and his system is more accurate on local roads here int he Central KY area and with locating his house. My TCH gets me to within 150 yards of the house.

Not that it will do any good, but I will be writing to Toyota to express my opinion of their policy regarding the quality of the navigation systems.
