Default new here, but thanks

been checking this forum for a couple of months. got my tch about a week or so after i first visited this site. have been concerned/discouraged over my fuel econ rating, not getting nearly as much as most of you guys. so after reading as many post on this topic as i could find. after finding the econ button, and running with the recirc on the a/c, and getting a couple thousand miles on it, the best i could get was 32 mpg. about a week and a half ago the low tire pressure light came on, after checking and filling all my tires to 40-42 lbs. i believe i can say that this appears to be the fix. lowest mpg has been 36, running around locally, and on a four hour round trip, clipped off 46 mpg. now thats what i was looking for when i bought the car. thanks for all the help, even if you didnt know you were helping. jmorris.

That may be true, but most every "newbe" seems to go through this learning phase and I believe that may contribute to "exceptional" milage more than the physical adjustments you make. I run my tires at 36 mpg, always have the A/C on (in ECO, recirculating mode), always have. My milage continues to improve as I become more habitual in using hybrid driving techniques. I still catch myself accelerating and not backing off the throttle and when I do correct it I usually can see an immediate instant FE improvement of 10 to 20 mpg. It amazes me when I see this and even more amazing to think that several small actions can add up to such a significant overall improvement.

I wan't looking for 46mpg (just 38 mpg) but if I found that like you did then WOW.
