Default Poor Paint?

I have just recently had the privilege of taking ownership of a Titanium Silver Base Model TCH. This weekend I was applying Zaino and discovered that the paint seems to have orange peel effect and some runs near the bottom of the car on both the Driver and passenger side of the vehicle. I was wondering if this is common for the Camry or if it is just my car.

P.S. Thanks for the furom it is a wealth of great information.

I had the same question when I picked ours up last week. I stopped by 2 local Toyota dealers and they both told me that was normal, some kind of 'rock guard protection' for rocks being thrown up from the tires.

Looking at it again when I got home, why didn't they do the same treatment to the rocker panels?

If it is below the door sill, that is normal, I have had that on all my Toyota's, as previously mentioned it is supposed to be a rock chip guard of some type.

The paint proble appears on the lower part of the door right above the last little ridge in the metal. Not below or on the rocker panels.

I have noticed what appears to be a different texture on the lower sections of the door - to me it isn't so much visible as it is tactile. I could feel it as I was waxing (and removing wax). This doesn't bother me at all.

I do notice the orange peel, too. This does bother me a little. I first noticed it when i took a bunch of pictures of my car. As i was reviewing them on the computer, it really jumped out at me. I am happy to overlook it though, since I love the car. My car is in the body shop right now, so i am curious what their paint job will look like (I hit a deer on Friday).

This is the picture of the orange peel if anyone is curious:

May have been scraped up in shipment and spotted in, a very common practice. SK
