Looking to get some snow tires mounted on separate rims. Any problem if these don't have the tire pressure sensor? Is there a way to turn the sensor receiver off if don't have them in the tires?

No. The TPS is not needed. However, the tire pressure warning light on the console will stay lit until the sensors have been replaced.

Are you basing the "red light" on from experience or are you guessing?

My experience has been new rims with no sensors produced no red light.
After driving for a few days ... I returned the original rims and tires... again no
red light... no resetting.

My guess is that the sensors send a signal when pressure is low... then the monitor must be reset.... but if no low pressure signal is sent then the monitor in the car should not go off.

Guess I'll find out when I put the snow tires on in a couple of weeks. Already got them purchased and mounted and balanced from Tire Rack. I'm headed on a trip over Thanksgiving and will put the snows on "just in case."

As I've posted before, I never saw the warning light at all last winter with the snow tires on but I did store the original wheels in the garage near the car.

Well, I can answer my own question now. Put the snow tires on today without sensors. No warning light on.

The final answer. Left on an extended trip three days ago. Started car and the low tire pressure indicator light started blinking. After a few minutes it stayed on solid. For the past three days, it does the same thing every time started. Interesting since it didn't come on at all for the first five days after the snow tires were put on!

So, the answer is the low tire presure indicator light might not come on but then again it might!

Saturday I switched to my snow tires, which don't have sensors. The orange light didn't come on until I hit precisely 50.0 miles on my first drive with the snows. It blinked for about 30 seconds, and then stayed on solid.

Now, when I start the car, the light blinks for 30 seconds and then stays on.

I thought the warning light being always on would drive me nuts, but it doesn't. It's tucked way down in the right hand corner of the display board and doesn't catch my eye. In fact it's kind of decorative and fitting for the season ;-).

Now I definitely wouldn't bother installing new sensors on my winter tires, though that had been my plan. The winter tires will be on the car for just three months anyway. And I sure don't require a warning to tell me I'm low on air - somehow I've survived 40 years of driving without that.
