Default Update on DVD for Nav?

My dad asked me this question. Will there be updates for the DVD navigation system you can eventually buy? Most people with portable Nav systems can update maps by going online, but we can't as we all have DVDs.

Does anybody know if Toyota will provide updated DVDs when they are available? --benny

My understanding is Toyota will update the DVD maps once a year. You can buy them from Toyota...I heard they are expensive.

Yes.

I have Version 5.1 a friend has 6.1 which came with his vehicle.

When I asked at the dealership about 6.1 I was told of course I could have it for about $380 Canadian plus tax.

Copy, as in "make a backup copy for safe keeping"? Then the answer is yes. All you need is a decent DVD/DL Burner and a DL Blank. I used Nero 6.0, a Verbatim DVD+R/DL Blank and did a DVD Copy. I now use the copy in my TCH for day to day operations with the original DVD stowed away for safe keeping.

Copy as in, your friend has 6.1 and you have 5.1, so you want to copy his 6.1, then no; that would be stealing.

Prius NAV updates were $195 US so I suspect the Camry updates will be close to that or a little more. Sounds about right. Heck I paid $130 for an update to my little Garmin portable GPS.
