Yeah, and trust me that had me freaking out the first few times it happened! After struggling along with this car that died every time I stopped, to replace it with a brand new car that... shut off the first time I pulled up to the stop sign at the end of my street! Believe me that took a little while to get to the point where I was happy it was shutting off instead of having my heart stop for a second, lol.

I traded in my 2002 PT Cruiser... a car I loved but with my driving style (stop and go commute) I was getting 17 mpg.. No regrets. Then for our second TCH we got rid of my wife's 2004 Nissan Maxima, very sporty car... I think my wife really misses it but is starting to like her TCH.

2006 Hyundai Sonata LX V6 with 10K miles.

So first my Mom buys a Prius with which I immediately fall in love. I'm getting 23 MPG in the Sonata and I'm having trouble getting comfortable in the seat (the lumbar support just didn't seem to be compatible with my back). Then I start Prius shopping but find new love in a loaded Jasper Pearl TCH at the dealer, so I bought it even though my trade in value was pretty pathetic. No regrets so far and at least I got in before the end of March and I'll see the $1300 tax credit. Still not the kind of thing you'd ever admit to a financial planner.

Saw jhobo4 traded your Tacoma. My weekend warrior/bad weather/Home Depot run vehicle is a 2003 Tacoma ext cab 4x4 that at this rate I'll probably own until I die of old age. I'm putting 4-5K miles per year on it and it's only at 40K. My cars may come and go but the Taco stays. I've owned a lot of vehicles over the years but it's my favorite by a wide margin.

Exclamation Re: What did you trade in to buy your new Camry?

2004 BMW Z4 Roadster with 24K on the oddometer and one year total factory warranty left. Why?....very reliable, very fast, very fun to drive (especially with the top down) and looked "good" on me.....BUT....very small, very cramped inside and not a good practical every day piece of transportation and not a very large trunk. It was "timing" more than anything since we wanted a hybrid for over a year and the BMW wasn't getting any better as the months ticked off, for trade-in value. We are both now retired and the time seemed right. BTW, the other car is a Sierra Denali (loaded) so do not need a "hauler" !

I still have two other cars (my family does, that is).

Along with the TCH, we have a 99 Sienna and a 2000 Camry. We got the TCH so our teens can drive one of the older cars and we are not stranded at home.

Before that, we had an 89 Camry Wagon and an 89 Camry Sedan which my brother still drives.

Before that we had two 82 Honda Accords and so on.

No trade. Sold 1991 Camry v6LE with 178,000 miles and was averaging 20 mpg, for $2000 to the first person to look at it (and he drove 80 miles). Still have my 2002 Toyota pickup that now has over 405,000 miles and is driven daily.

Did not need a new car but figured we should purchase one before I retire in two more years.

Bought our 07 Jasper Pearl in July 06. Went all the way to Chicago from Florida to get it since there were no loaded ones to be found here. Have just over 10,000 miles and averaging 40.1 miles calculated.

2004 Mazda RX-8. Loved the handling and the sportiness but only got 20-21mpg max on the hwy. Lots of inconvient TCBs. An engine replacement at 50K finally convinced me that the high maintenance was not worth it. Looking forward to the Toyota quality.

With 80k miles/year, looks like you could have used a hybrid pickup!

I replaced my 2001 Ford Ranger. Probably wouldn't have gotten rid of it if I had the extended cab. But without that it was too inconvenient. Plus it was a stick. I didn't mind it, but my wife hated driving it.
