Default WOW-MILEAGE @ UP TO 40 miles per hour

After reading a few notes and strategy tips from peoples milage data bases I thought I would try this 40 miles per hour stuff, filled the tank and drove back roads and recorded 51 mpg on the tank average for a wile. Now I can see and believe some of the higher milage claims- Anyone ever try this type of driveing?

If I have a high SOC I can run on 45 miles per hour roads keeping the instantaneous mpg gauge pegged at 60 mpg. It's runs like that that bring the average up.

I commute to work in heavy traffic, about 30 miles each way and I got few runs at 46mpg and normally average 41-43 mpg, without even trying. Of course because of traffic I can't drive too fast and if I didn't keep up with everybody else they would run me over without even looking, besides the fact that i do need to get to work on time, so I can see that you can squeeze 50mpg out of the car during pleasure drive in the country, probably more with some practice.

Over the summer, my wife, two kids and I would drive frequently to my sister-in-law's house 30 miles away. We found a back-roads route that had few stops, and typically posted 35 or 40 miles per hour roads. Even with a full car, we averaged 42+ MPG. Amazing car.

Thumbs up Re: WOW-MILAGE @ UP TO 40 miles per hour

Woooaou, I just parked my beauty mini silver bullet in the garage and the AVG TANK registered 43.5MPG, my previous yesterday was 42.3MPG... hoooooooray, awesome 2007 TCH vehicle and no issues at all so far with a bit over 500 miles... who knows one day I might reach the 50MPG (would not that be wonderful?)...

Dear Joe,

Congrats!

I have found in the few weeks I have had mine that the TCH rewards you for your careful and "conscious" driving. It certainly has changed my approach to driving, even though I don't consider myself to be trying to do anything very extreme to seek hyper FE.

My last ride was a BMW X-5, and I tended to drive over the speed limit (it was too easy!). With the TCH, I am driving at or under the limit on most roads. My wife can't believe how much my driving style has changed! Also, I have two motorcycles and if I want to thrash asphalt the sportbike is much preferable.

My first tank was 39.3 MPG, the second 41.6 and the third (I am still working on it) is 42.7 so far. I don't expect to see continuing improvement as the tanks accumulate. I assume that there is some limiting range of FE that I'll get into for good. But the car is already performing better than I expected, and I am truly pleased with its overall feel and fuel economy. My gas consumption has dropped to 45% of what it was with the X-5. That helps to think about when the montly payment is due!

Enjoy!!

Got mine just a few days ago. 41.4 mpg from Las Vegas to Denver. It dropped to 41 mpg after 90 mi of driving in the rain. But I was able to do ~40 mpg on my short 10.5 mi commute.

My TCH is exactly two weeks old now and still running on the original tank of gas. 548 miles and registering 45.1 mpg! That's just 8 mpg less than my Prius has averaged over its 40,000 life. The TCH rides so much more comfortably.

Filled the tank a few days ago and took the back roads home so that I could practice driving for FE (was lucky enough to have no one driving behind me) and was able to get 51.8.

Wow, I just finsished my first tank and TANK AVG registered 43.3MPG for 552.5 miles and the reset within NAV screen it registered 41.7 (not accurate never had reset it when I filled up gas from dealership delivery)...
..... NOW the amazing fact is after filling up my 2nd tank and reseting the ODO (trip A) my 2007 TCH is parked in the garage and my TANK AVG has registered 99.9MPG after 2.0 miles of driving with 41F temperature... now can anyone beat this MPG???
