Default Tire Recommendation for HCH1?

What kind of low rolling resistance tires are you putting in your HCH1 when it's time to replace those OE tires? And how many miles have you gotten out of them? Car in question is a 2004 HCH1 manual. TIA...

Tirerack.com would be a good place to start your research. I haven't replaced my tires yet but I'd probably go with OE when the time comes unless there is something better out there. In particular, a quieter tire. My 05hch has bridgestone B381,185/70SR14, 240 B B rated. $80 each.
Still plenty of tread left at 24K miles.

I just had my OEM Dunlops replaced last week in my '04 after 88,000 miles.

I had them replace it with the same model, Dunlop SP-20FE.
They are a bit noisy especially when pumped up but deliver good FE
The dealer replaced them for $61 each.

.

Efficient drivers do it better.
1003 miles a tank personal record. 74MPG calculated. HCH1 CVT

Guess when it works, there's no reason to stray from OE huh? :-) But I'm curious if anyone out there has gone aftermarket? At 85,000mi I'm on my fourth sets of tires (NOT counting the set that came with the car) in my M3 already. Of course none of these replacements are OE tires. Guess when the tires wear fast, tire shopping is a more frequent thing...

Thanks for chiming in guys. The car in question, btw, is my sister's HCH1.

Phil

I've been looking too and I did some research and posted a similar thread. There's some good info in there so it's worth reading.

I, too, need new rubber on the HCH. I've had the Bridgestones B381(OEM) last 60,000, and the Dunlop SP20s also lasted 60k. I liked the Bridgestones a little better (quieter, slightly better traction), but can't justify a 2X difference in price. I think I'll try one of the others this time around.

Anyone using this tire out there?

http://www.nokiantyres.com/passenger...me=NOKIAN+NRHi

According to Nokian, this is the current low rolling resistent replacement for NRT2. The NRT2, supposedly, gets GREAT gas-mileage, but has been discontinued...

I didn't like the OEM (Dunlops) in the rain, and they were not that great in the snow so I did the following:

I bought a set of summer (great in the dry and wet):

Sumitomo HTR 200 (High Performance Summer)

Sumitomo HTR 200

and a set of winter Blizzaks.

So I have the best of both worlds.

The Sumitomo are quieter and have plenty of grip especially in the wet.
