Default 08 Civics have remote start option

According to this:
Remote Start (2008 Civic)

$361.76 MSRP:$515.00

Part number: Fits: 2008 Civic
Introducing the remote start kit for the 08 Civic.
This kit includes:
  • Reciever Unit
  • Key Fob
  • Wire Harness
  • Owners Manual
  • Quick Start
NOTE: This kit will only work when installed and programmed by a certified Honda Dealer.
Not Available for DX, GX, Si, MX models.
This price includes Remote Start Kit with necessary attachment

Never really saw the need for such a beast, myself, but apparently a lot of people do. What the heck is a "MX" model - is that code for the hybrid??

.

Remote starting is kind of ironic for a hybrid.

I go for max MPG.
I don't start the car till I'm positive I can move (there are no cars coming from behind me and no red light right in front of my parking space).

I would never want to start the car early so it can sit there not moving sucking up gas and making emissions.

.

Need fewer troops to support.
Drive a hybrid.
Best tank 71.65 MPG.

Before this car I spent two years learning hypermiling on my 2004 HCH1.

Ugh!

My neighbor has remote start on her Navigator. I love seeing that thing running in the driveway every morning.

I actually caught it running "by accident" this summer. What a waste!

Note: those who actually need this feature (Canooks, Alaskans, etc) please don't flame, I wasn't referring to you.

Not to mention more "false advertising" lawsuits from people who think that sitting there in the driveway is good for mpg.

.

Someday I might even beat that wascally kenny!

No flames from me. That's for sure !!!!

I'm a "Canook" and even at -40F during the dept of our Manitoba winters I find these remote starters a total disgrace and an environmental nightmare in any vehicle let alone on a fuel efficient hybrid vehicle.

Cheers;

MSantos

remote start shutdown after it idle for 10 min.I think thats better than running outside in snow starting the car with key, let car idle for more than 10 min and not to mention letting the cold air inside the house.when the cold air came to the house you have to higher the thermostat burn more fuel than the 10 min the car idle.

Pana: I think what MSantos is getting at is that you should not be warming your car up by running the engine (whether it's manually or remotely), but by an electric block heater. (I know he is a big fan of his . )

Called dealership to order this option for my Hybrid. It is listed as not compatible. The dealer is going to call Honda technical support to find out if it truly is not compatible.

Once I get an answer back I will post it. If anyone else finds out before me then please post !!
