my 06 hybrid has 15000 miles on it. for the past few weeks i get a horrible odor coming from the ac system. it is intermittent and seems to go away when you put the ac on high fan setting. does not smell like the usual moldy smell one gets from an ac system. has anyone else experienced this and is there a fix?

Does you car usually sleep outside? Also, has your cabin air filter been changed yet - might be worth to have a look at it, including the cabin air intake...

yes, actually i do park the car outside. have not changed the cabin filter as yet. any instructions on how to do it would be appreciated.

You can retrieve those instructions by searching this forum (sometime in 2006). At the time, I provided a formal approach to accessing the cabin air filter, but other folks provided what they claimed is a faster/better approach.

Hopefully you wont have a dead animal or other critter sitting there in a "rot" state. It has happened before.
