Time to buy a new car. My last three cars have been:

2002 Honda Insight - too flimsy/primitive, GREAT mileage
2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid - too boring, too big, too Toyota
2008 smart - VERY fun, but now needing 4-passenger car

I've loved the HCHII style since it was introduced, and am thinking it may be a good choice for '09. But, there is the new 4/5 seat Insight that may be available soon, too. I like that leather seats and better colors will be available for the '09 Civic. Not sure how the MPGs may vary between the new Insight and the HCH. Not sure how hard it might be to get an HCH at MSRP these days, or when the actual intro date of the new Insight will be (rumored Spring '09).

My goal is to get back to higher MPGs, in an entertaining, relatively small, and comfortable car with good build quality. Does this sound like the HCH would be the right choice? Wait for the new Insight?

They should both be out soon, so you will be able to make up your own mind and purchase the best one for you. H
