About 3 months ago while washing my car, I noticed a few white marks on one of my wheel hub covers. I tried to wash it off as it lokked like bird poo! It would not wash. Next I tried bug & tar remover. I thought it may be tree sap or something like that. This also did not work. A few days ago I showed it to the Honda technician. He thought it was corrosion from road salt. I guess the center hub covers are made out of plastic . The dealer ordered a set of them for me as 3 out of the 4 are corroded and pitted. Anyone else noticed this? Is there a product that will protect these plastic covers?

I think it is a defect. I have this on one of my hubcaps. They seem to be aluminum. Anyone else?

Mine are plastic. No corrosion yet, but I've only had the car five weeks.

I had a similar problem with the central discs on my previous Honda (Accord). It had been caused by over-zealous use at my dealers of a stiff brush gadget for washing wheels. The discs are very sensitive to harsh treatment. I now allow no one to wash my wheels but me and I wax polish them to provide a protective layer.

What do new ones run? Anyone figured that out yet? Of course corroded ones are a warranty thing.

I think they are metal, but have a plastic coating. that is why when you remove them they tell you to cover the end of the flat head.

I haven't played with these yet (I'm about to, as I need to do my tire rotation), but most of these types of covers are made of plastic with thin metallic coating which is bonded to the plastic. The metal is not much thicker than foil, so it can be easily damaged.
