Default Detailed hch2 review

Anyone seen this? This is the most technical review I read. Some of the stuff just went over my head.

Yeah, Wayne did a nice job with that review. I think he hit the nail on the head--the Civic is better ergonomically than the Prius and it can easily hold it's own in highway and suburban driving. Throw it into the inner city and it falters, although the 34mpg he got on that city streatch is still a good deal better than a normal gas car could deliver.

It's nice to read a hybrid review that doesn't start out along the lines of "This car is ridiculously slow, looks silly and didn't deliver the claimed FE" like I am used to reading from the mainstream auto press....

.

Commuter car, grocery getter, and summer road tripper--average 10k miles per year.

Winter road trips and ski trips, bad weather commuter and my wife's "daily" driver--expected average 4k miles per year.

Disagree. It starts off nice but then turns into a private insider review with all the hypermiling.

Well, it is being written for the CleanMPG audience after all. It's everything a hypermiler would want to know from the greatest hypermiler of them all.

I thought it was a great review, especially for someone looking to buy a hybrid. It was definitely more informative than typical car reviews that are all about performance and 0-60 times. I don't know how he pulled off such high FE though, 70+mpg! thats insane

I dunno. I read the review 4-5 times just to understand some of the details and lingo. Most of the acronyms are over my head and that was the biggest turn off for me. I am starting to get it though, slowly I think.
let me see if I got this right... to get over 70MPG at 60 MPH on my HCH I need to get the scangauge gizmo???

In my experience, you would need a tailwind or downhill stretch to average 70mpg at 60mph. Its more like 60-65mpg, at least using CC.

Simply slowing to 50-55mph would probably get you there though.

I have not purchased a scangage yet and probably wont as I dont know if it will give me the extra 5-10mpg to justify its $150 price.

They talk about doing much more than 70MPG and no CC in steady speeds up to 60 MPH. My eyes popped out when they said doing 70-90 MPG on a HCH.

Helps if I actually read the article... I agree that the SAHM method and Waynes techniques can wring more FE out of the HCH2 than any of us can.
