Default Honda Civic (non-hybrid) gas tank install in HCHII?

The regular Civic has a gas tank with a capacity of 13.2 gallons.

Our HCHIIs have a tank of 12.3 gallons.

It would be nice to add some additional range by using the regular Civic's tank. Could anyone tell me if a regular Civic's gas tank would work on a hybrid? What are the risks, etc?

Thanks!

.

Even if it could fit in the HCHII, why go through the trouble for 0.9 gallons? Gas stations are eveywhere. Just my 2 cents.

Correct -- if Honda could have fit in the original tank, they definitely would have. They don't want to make custom parts for any car, because it costs them money.

If you really want cruising range, you can have a supplemental tank installed in the car's trunk. I have seen this done. It'll add an extra 20 gallons or so, and it'll be a simple, gravity-fed system.

You'll just have to fill two tanks every time you run out of gas, but that will only occur every 1,500 miles. And, of course, you'll lose a chunk of trunk space.

Your range is already much better than a standard Civic -- and most other cars.

Are you really not satified getting more than 400 miles per tank?

There are many methods you could implement (that are on this site) to increase your range. Looks like you have a little room for improvement.

not only the trouble and the time but you would need the tank straps the pump and all of the evap system parts that are mounted back there...the canister the valves the solenoids the filler neck. i would bet your looking at 1500 dollars plus in parts if you get a good deal. all for a gallon of gas. i wish i had as much extra time as you do

Brian;

bullet4 is correct in his reference to the parts.

These attributes are the result of additional "design considerations" factored in the HCH-II fuel tank sold in North America. This altered design is in part responsible to the Tier2/Bin2 (and other) environmental performance objectives for the vehicle.

Yes, it would be good to have a fuel tank in our HCH's that is as large as those of other HCH sold in other markets... but to some of us the slight loss in capacity is well justified.

Cheers;

MSantos

I have seen the specs listing 12.3 gallon capacity for the HCH. Curiously enough, the manual for my 2008 HCH says 13.2 gallons, like the regular Civic!

Maybe they changed it for 2008?

If you want an extra gallon of gas, just keep a gallon of gas in your trunk.
