I need to carry a bunch of cargo and want to remove that seat temporarily.

I asked a Honda dealer to do it and they said, "No".

They said if I put a person there and drove and there was an accident I could try to sue Honda.

How stupid! I hate this litigious culture we live in.
Fear of lawsuits paralyzes us.

Has anyone removed that seat themselves?
Would this void my warranty?

Before this car I spent two years learning hypermiling on my 2004 HCH1.

The only way to get the seat out is to do it yourself, or an indy mechanic. Honda will not touch it unless its broken.

Looks like it's 14mm bolts, but the rear ones are under a plastic cover. Should not be difficult, just move the seat up or back to get to whichever. Do the back ones first since the seat will fall back if you remove the fronts. Undo the airbag sensor harness before you jerk it out or you will have a bad day.

There ar 4 bolts to remove, two in the front and two in the rear the plastic covers on the rear have to be removed, and a wire harness for the SRS, now when you re-instal the seat you will have to have the SRS (air bag system) fault cleared. Or else the air bags will not deploy if needed.

I don't think you are correct here. If you do not turn on the ignition while it is disconnected, there will be no fault recorded. And even if you do, the airbag will still deploy. A fault code will not disable its function.

I called Honda USA.

They said no dealer will do it.
If I do it the entire SRS airbag system may not operate.
Other airbags may not deploy when needed.
Plus they said if I do it myself I will void the warranty.

I'm not doing it.

They gave you the corporate liability lawyer answer. The real-world-where- we-all-live answer is that it is no problem. The SRS will not deactivate. You will not get a fault if you do not turn on the car. Think about it: How could the car "know" that you had disconnected the front seat sensor if it is not "awake"?

A fault code will only show that the sensor had been disconnected.

I have removed the seats from many cars with SRS airbags, and it is not a problem.

Didn't the OP said that he wanted to carry cargo? I am assuming that he wants to transport them to somewhere in the car and not just let them sit there.

If that is the case, then he'll not only have to start the car, but drive it as well without the air bags!!

Still, a fault from one sensor, or air bag will (should) not disable the entire system. That would be a really stupid way to design it.

If you did get a SRS light, an indy mechanic can clear the code for you (for a "nominal charge", of course)
