Interesting theory. For as often as my car does it, you'd think I had one of the most "calibrated" cars on the road

. I have only noticed it happening when the engine is cold (not necessarily the ambient temp), but we've only had the car since October so maybe I haven't had the chance to see it in other circumstances yet.
If it were "calibrating" then how does it know to increase your average MPG while it's doing it? Based on my over-simplified logic, if it was doing a calibration, your average MPG would stay flat until the calibration was over, but the average definitely climbs each and every time it "calibrates". I'm with you--I think it's some sort of bug. Then again, if that is the worst bug the car has, I will be a happy camper.
