Well it's over.
I was going to shoot for a record for miles-per-tank too, but I wimped out.
I didn't want to take a chance harming my fuel pump so I filled up this morning.
I think that I still had more than a gallon left.
I went 740.6 miles on 10.337 gallons, for 71.65 MPG.
Here are the conditions for this tank:
No modifications to car, 100% stock
No engine block heaters
No blocking of radiator intake
No topping off of gas tank - I have always stopped at the first click
No FAS (turning off car when going downhill)
No Lean Burn
No EV Mode
No drafting (tailgating semi trucks)
No driving with load
No looking at tachometer to guide my acceleration
No air conditioner used
No rain and negligible wind
No passengers
No pushing or being towed either.
90% of miles are with cruise control ON and set at 48
MPH for my flat 17-mile commute
Tire pressure = 42 PSI
Average temp is about 75 degrees
My windows are always up
If it is hot I use the fan and/or take my shirt and shoes off
I accelerate like a old snail on morphine that's in no hurry at all to get to the dentist for a root canal
I rarely used brakes because I leave a ton of room in front of me
I'm tired of going 48
MPH, maximum speed, so I'm sure I will never get a better tank average than this
I'll return to 53
MPH max now
Also we are entering the hottest months of the year and I'll be tempted to use a little AC
