You are right. It is a little too early to have that part replaced.
Did they by any chance, notice/note anything else during the service report?
Since it is not a cheap part to replace, it is normal for them to record a little more info (diagnosis/observations) especially when performing a warranty part replacement.
Stupid Question:
What type of gas to you use in your area ? Did you modify your engine in any way (like a cold air intake, high flow air filter, etc)?
