Default Roof Rack & mileage

Just in case anyone is curious...

I finally got the yak rack on the car, two bike setup and fairing, and the added drag without bikes is around 3 mpg.

And just an FYI - when removing the rack be sure to hose it down or wear gloves or do it before it sits in the sun. After a day in the sun the trays get really hot.

Interesting. I've been meaning to do some back to back testing to try and quantify the results of just having the rack, and having the rack AND bikes on it (vs. no rack). I'm curious if I see a similar number.

I've only had the bike on the HCH once and I got 52.4mpg (calculated) for 400 miles of mountain driving.

.

Commuter car, grocery getter, and summer road tripper--average 10k miles per year.

Winter road trips and ski trips, bad weather commuter and my wife's "daily" driver--expected average 4k miles per year.

plus, yesterday I found out that the roof rack combined with the wife having the car for the day equates to 35.3 mileage.......

And that is why I take the rack off after each use! Too bad it's not as easy to improve the "wife" side of the mileage equation .
