I can now confirm that a full size hybrid wheel and tire will NOT fit in the spare tire well of our vehicles.

Wow... that's a shock. I'd swear that I had read an article or had seen it posted that the wheel well was designed to hold a full size tire and wheel. Was it very close? Maybe it'll hold a standard wheel and a FLAT tire?!!!

I used a measuring tape instead of actually taking one of my wheels and tires off, but it didn't look close at all.

The spare sits on a bit of a "riser" towards the front of the well, and I don't even think it's wide enough in general to fit the circumference of a full size wheel and tire.

Okay... that got my curiosity up... so I searched and FOUND the article! Here's the review:

http://www.pricequotes.com/cars/revi...ml?review=1329

Here's the actual quote: "A thoughtful touch is a spare tire well large enough to hold the full-size tire the compact spare will replace temporarily in the event of a flat."

I don't know where they got their data. Sorry if I passed along bad information!

Surely the spare is called a "space-saver"?
