Steve, the only thing I see, that may be a problem with your tank, is that you are almost at half tank but mileage needs to be around 450. You may still hit the 800 mile tank if you don't get any emergencies in which you have to speed or someone gets on your nerves and causes you to blow you mpg. Good luck.

Honestly I have no idea what it takes to reach 800. I just looked and saw that I was approaching 400 miles and was still over 1/2 a tank, so...

To hit 800 miles on a tank you need to be at least 450 miles for a half tank and averaging around 42 mpg unless you want to risk running out of gas. Being over 475 miles on a half tank puts you there unless your mileage goes way down the rest of the tank. In June I hit 804 miles on 18.6 gallons of gas (43.3 mpg). I just hit 753 miles yesterday on 17.7 gallons (42.5 mpg). I would have tried for another 800+ mile tank, but I had a long trip planned so I gassed up. It is very rare that I do not get at least 750 miles per tank before fill-up. As long as you are over 40+ mpg it is possible every tank full.

Agreed, it is certainly possible, provided you're doing more then 42mpg AND had the tank topped off to start with. If your last fuel load was a bit light, you'd be better off with at least 43mpg on avg. 800 miles / 19.0 gallons = 42.1mpg.

The other thing to be careful of is how accurate your dashboard computer reading is; if it reads high (as many seem to do), you'll need more like 44-45mpg to be confident of making 800 miles without running on fumes.

The other problem is that the 1/2 tank marker on the dash is not really 1/2 tank (or 10 Gallons) 1/2 tank occurs slightly above the 1/2 marker. If you fill up at the 1/2 marker you will be putting in about 11.3 gallons. I know this because I did many tests trying to determine if fill up half tanks would yield better fe due to reduced weight. I would always fill my tank when it reached 1/2 empty and always got in 11.? gallons. In the first photo the miles would have to be 450 already (about 475 by the 1/2 marker)at 42 mpg. If you notice the spacing between the markers is not equal. From tank fill-up to the F you should get 125 miles, From F down to 3/4 mark you should get an additional 150 miles, from 3/4 down to the 1/2 mark you should get 200 miles, or 475 total, remember it is not 1/2 tank, it is 1/2 tank marker or about 11.3 gallons.

Do you have the A/C off when you drive? I have tried all the hypermiling tricks and the best I ever achieved from the display is 38.1 mpg (hand count 37.3).

What is your secret?

I don't know what kind of miles you have on your car, but mine seemed to loosen up at around 3-4K miles. I also changed to Mobil-1 0W-20 at my first oil change. We've had a pretty good summer here in MA and I haven't had to run the A/C for the tank in question. BTW, I ended up filling the tank due to a trip to Maine I had to take. At the time the odometer had 605 miles and the tank showed 1/4 full. The fill up took 14.7 gallons, so it appears I would have made 800. (and I was stuffing the tank)

I just happen to have an ideal commute for this car. Speed limits between 30 and 45, and long flats followed by a downhill to recharge, I can really take advantage of the terrain here. The "trick" isn't so much staying in EV, as it is keeping the power gage down near zero as much as possible.

FWIW I also like to use tier one type gasoline, usually Shell or Mobil, but I have no idea if this makes a difference.
