My wife did the same thing with my NAH, she rarely drives it and swears she pushed the button and thought for sure it was off. We have since schooled her on the dash lights!

The problem is that she has beautiful long manicured fingernails, when she attempted to push the button, her fingernails bridged the button and did not fully depress it. I can't expect her to risk breaking a nail while turning "my dumb car" off!

I too do not really like this feature or the chimes, etc. I think it is great for a normal car when you can hear the engine running and you won't walk away. Seems there should be a better compromise on something as simple as the ON/OFF switch.

Marianne,

What are the chances of you ever repeating this mistake? ;-)

Honestly - HIGH... because I 100% for sure thought I turned the car off every time I've done this. It's not a matter of not pushing the off button. I always push the off button and get the mental confirmation the car has turned off... only to come back and find it on. So I am not fooling myself about it not being a future problem.

I guess the car should check if the FOB is in the area within 10ft (or so) while the car is in the ON state and NOT moving. It should do this every 5 minutes (or whatever makes the most sense), if FOB not found, turn off car.

Does the NAH give you a message after turnign the car off? On my TCH, the cluster has a display that flashes the word "excellent" if your avg MPG is above 35 for the trip, and it shows you your avg MPG. I got in the habit of checking it every time I shut off, to see what my AVG mpg was. If the NAH has the same, it may be a good habit to develop
