HI Josh, I too live in NJ and get to do some city driving mixed in with the highway. I find it very easy (in the city) to accelerate to (20, 30 or 40) and abruptly release the accelerator pedal to force it into EV mode. My tactic is to keep it in EV as much as possible in the city, because i know when i get on the Highway the battery will have time to charge. PS if you put your display on the (real time / bar graph) current mileage screen, you will see that when your car is warming up the mileage will be reading about 10mpg, when that starts to increase, you will know your car has warmed up. GOOD LUCK

.

Mine takes significantly longer to warm up (15 mins), though I'm not driving at 30mph, its stop & start in the city. It is pretty frusterating, I am consistently getting 30-32mpg, it seems that most people on the site get in the high 30's. I have no idea if it's a problem with the engine, my driving style, or the mostly-highway nature of my commute.

One of the reasons I bought the NAH was to complete my low/no stress program! I used to drive a 300HP+ Supercharged car with a driving style that was waaaay too aggressive for So Cal. I spend several hours of the day on the road.

The NAH has really helped me with stress reduction, I drive 65MPH, stay out of the fast lane, of course, and I even have a radio preset to "smooth jazz", OMG....

Stay under 70 miles per hour, drive smoothly and sit back and watch the circus!! You should get 35MPG.

My wife and I also live in central NJ. The best commute for a NAH is about a 30 minute one in mixed highway/city traffic, where the car can quickly warm up, then go in and out of EV mode as needed. Driving normally but sanely reaps the best MPG. Our MPG has dropped to 34 since the weather became cold so that is a factor as well.

Best Wishes

Josh, some have stated that covering the radiator air intake will reduce the amount of warm up time. I have never tried this on the nah, however did use it on my past vehicles, jeep cherokee and toyota pick up with no ill effects(to get the heater working faster in the winter cold). Not sure if i would be willing to try it on such a new car, but maybe worth looking into.
