My mistake. For some reason I typed in the weight of water. So you need to drop 4 gallons before saving that precious 1%.

I'm just going to ride my bicycle to pick up dinner and call it even.

The Honda Insight uses 0-20w (2.5qt) and the manual states as does the maintenence light, 7,500 miles and to change filter (wix, I prefer) every OTHER time.

I just bought a ton of 0W-20 at Wal-Mart, Mobil 1 and took it to my dealer and had him use it to change as he didn't stock it either.

The Nissan dealer in toms river has the syn 0w-20 in stock. I was informed that if they are ever out, that they can "get it" in 10 minutes. I'm assuming from the auto store down the street. The cost went down too, from $69. to $63. They have me on the 5K miles schedule but i always go over by about 2K, still within the manufactures less severe interval schedule. Close, in theory the increase is 2.5% so .88 mpg if you get 35mpg.
Seems like a significant inconvience for a minor gain that could be gotten by other methods. (weight reduction, minor increase in tire pressure, taking public transportation occasionally)

I change my own oil. Mobil 1 0W20 with filter is less than 30 bucks. I just did my first oil change on the NAH. Not that difficult IMO. I use synthetic in all our vehicles. I save so much by doing it myself it's not much of a price hit.

Where do you buy the filters from? I got a ton of synthetic oil that I plan to use for my NAH and other car and have gotten to the point where the wait and money spent at a dealership for an oil change far outweighs the not getting dirty part...

I just used a Fram filter from Wallyworld. Just use the same one used in the 2.5L non hybrid. I found the easiest (for me) method was to jack up the car from the passenger side, remove the passenger front wheel, and access the filter right through the wheel well. The drain plug takes a 15mm socket. The change uses a full 5 quarts.
