Well, the dealer that "suggested" the batteries were bad actually did pull codes referencing the batteries, however they could not test them because they did not have the proper gloves to work on the 300V batteries. My vehicle has 93K miles on it, batteries should be under warranty, maybe that's why they won't replace them?

There are tests to be done on the HV battery that do NOT involve touching it. By driving and looking at scan tool data, you can learn a great deal.

Gloves, rain... are all Red-Herring issues.

There is NO load test for the HV battery other than driving in EV and looking/recording data. The dealer scan tool can look at the 20 volt meters inside the HV battery and look for weak cells under controlled EV operation. For a 12V battery you hook up a "load" tester and apply a high amperage load. Well an aligator clip on box for the BIG battery doesn't exist for dealers to use. 100 amps at 300 volts is nothing to play with.

So use the 3 ton vehicle in EV. By watching their scan tool for total HV battery amps and looking at/recording snapshots of the cells, they can find any weak ones. If the HV battery holds up, they can look elsewhere.

Update: Spoke to the service advisor there and they are stumped. They were able to duplicate the problem and experience the same problem that I did, however no codes.

Good progress. Now speaking as an original Mr. Goodwrench once they can duplicate it, they can get snapshot data and work with the factory guys to figure it out.

I've been informed that it was a bad Hybrid battery, still under warranty and will be replaced free of charge which is good, however it's been almost 2 weeks and it has not been replaced yet...being that it is a warranty job will GM pay for my rental car??? Does anyone know?

Get more data from the vehicle. Freeze Frames tell more of the story.

it was the battery, how many miles on your vehicle. it may still be under warranty, otherwise it is about $2,100 for the hybrid battery.
