I agree that the extended range can't compare to the HCH and Insight, but from what I've read it's around 300 miles with a full tank of gas (I don't understand why GM used such a tiny tank, less than 8 gal US IIRC) and that's probably not much worse than the average SUV.

And for it's targeted demo, average under 20 mile commute, it's perfect. Using the car mainly for commuting means you could get away with rarely gassing up.

I have to admit I am intrigued by the Volt. I just wish it was a bit cheaper and I fit the targeted demographics better.

my escalade full tank of gas+hybrid enables me to reach 500 miles range.

500 miles on 26 gal US is almost 20 MPG. Not bad for a full size SUV.

I can get about 700 miles out of my 12.5 gal HCH tank.

Of course your Escalade could almost carry my Civic as cargo.
