Re: Chevy Volt production halted
Petzy,
I did a similar analysis when we decided to order our Volt, but my comparisons were to Malibu and Equinox, since those were our second and third choice vehicles. The TOTAL cost of ownership (Lease pmt + Gasoline purchase + Electricity charge) kept coming out in favor of Volt. It is actually exceeding our mileage expectations.
As for the plant idling, I look at it this way.....the original plan for the Volt / Ampera was about 35,000 units per year from 2012 forward. When he came in as CEO, Dan Akerson was given exposure to the program and quickly became a supporter. He challenged the organization to achieve 60K annual sales, so the target for 2012 was revised. Now it looks like the original projections were closer to where the market wants the Volt to be. The plant idling is to adjust inventories to demand, which is likely to be really close to the original projections of @ 35,000.
