I noticed that in President Bush's speech concerning his new initiative on the Moon, he claimed that valuable minerals could be harvested and the atmosphere perhaps changed. I am not an Anti-Bush, but I did notice that he plans to exploit the resources of an environment we know little about. This is what is causing all the problems on Earth today.

What do you think?

Something that bugged me is that it seemed like an impulse decision for the government at the time. How convenient that we just downloaded the best pictures from the red planed just days before.

Politics - stupid politics.

At least there WERE references made to making the mission(s) international.

Yikes! Just learned today that some utility costs are up 54% (since last year???) because of limited supplies of natural gas and other resources.

When will they learn?

I'm undecided as to whether it's completely political. Bush is an enigma. He's undoubtably a very powerful president - and paradoxical at that. I suppose time will tell.

I'm not sure a political discussion is appropriate here, and I really don't have the deepest of personal feelings about politics, but reading this post made me think of Senator Joseph Biden's comments on the Daily Show the other night...that he feels Bush is most strongly influenced by and may actually be a second in command to Cheney (although he made it clear he didn't mean to imply "puppet").

More resources mean more $$$ to those who "mine" them, right? Maybe there *is* something out there...

Jon Stewart himself surmised that further space exploration basically showed that Bush is "giving up" on Earth because it's already over-exploited!

Haha. Well, I think that conclusion is probably taking it a bit far, but I do believe the "War on Terrorism" will be a thick chapter in future history books.
