I understand the historical underpinnings, but it still makes little sense to me to add an hour of daylight (at the end of the day) in the summer, when days are so long anyway, rather than in the winter, when around here it gets dark around 4 or 4:30 p.m. in late December. I could use that extra hour of daylight at the end of the standard (9-5) workday, to get home before dark, in the winter. To me, extra darkness in the morning is no big deal, as that time is invariably spent indoors, getting me & the family ready to venture forth (morning ablutions, breakfast, packing up lunches, backpacks, and briefcases, etc.), while the end of the day time is more often spent outdoors.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm not sure about this, as more people work at night these days.

This could be a big headache for international travelers, because America will be different.

Mentioned this in the other thread, but I'll throw it in here too: Other than parts of the Indian Reservations, Arizona does not ever go on DST. We're always GMT -7:00, year-round. I feel we have the right amount of sunshine both summer and winter, to be honest, and a nice balance between sunrise and sunset at both ends of the calendar. I'm kind of surprised that more states don't do away with DST and just pick whatever timezone is best for them. There is already precident for time zones being chosen even at the individual county level anyway.

Washington State already has enough division between the counties, especially east and west, I don't see much need for every county to choose their own time zone. I'm inclined to believe that if that were to come to fruition, hypothetically, King County would choose some off the wall time zone to join just to be obstinate.

Anyway, I think holding DST around for another month would be pleasant, and frankly I don't mind dark mornings. I've never been a morning person anyway. However, I'm still going to have to heat my house in the morning in the winter, and in the evening when I come home. I seriously doubt that it will have any significant impact on my winter heating bill.
