Cool Re: How many Hondas have you owned?

Let's see... six (6) so far:

2005 HCH
2003 Civic LX (traded in for HCH)
2003 CR-V (wife's car)
1997 Accord SE (traded in)
1996 Civic EX (Daughter's car)
1994 Accord LX (Daughter owns now, her husband drives it)

I used to be a Toyota guy, drove a 1980 Corolla [my first "new" at 30 years of age] for ten years, replaced that with a 1989 Corolla that got totalled by a big red pick-up truck in '97 or '98. By that time my wife and daughter were driving Hondas so I joined the crowd. Can't say I'll ever go back.

In case anyone cries that I don't buy American, I did own a Buick in the late eighties, which after a few years needed a tranny job. The transmission shop opened it up, saw all the plastic teeth that had worn off, and told us to trade that car in ASAP. That's when the wife went out and bought the '94 Accord. I have had no trouble with my Hondas.

Six Honda history from 1976:

1. 76 CVCC wagon, yellow; the after Army, grad school car; recall really liking the FWD handling and 5 speed stick on the floor; mpg around 24-27; one of its enviro selling points was that it met California emissions standards without a catalytic converter; pretty rusty by 137k miles; my bondo and fiberglass patches added a "distinctive," spotted appearance toward the end.... Pre car seat days, rear seat folded down; add foam mattress, toys, kids, camping gear, dog, Padre Island, chicken neck crabbing in the bay inlets, ahhhh....
2. 82 Accord, 5 speed. Routine maintenance only; used no oil, still got over 30mpg at 180k miles when we gave it to our daughter who sold it with over 240k, still using no oil, still getting around 30 mpg. I think it needed a new clutch around 200k.
3. 91 Accord LX, 5 speed. Another great car, again over 180k trouble free miles, used no oil, over 30 mpg; still had original clutch.
4. 94 Civic LX, 5 speed. Sold with only 104K miles, used no oil, around 30-32 mpg, but I didn't work a it; a little dimpled after two hailstorms; still see it around, 3d owner, over 200k.
5. 99 Accord, LX 5 speed. Still driving this one, only 141k, so far. Same Honda story: uses no oil, gets around 32-34 mpg without much effort; still has original clutch, brake pads.
6. 05 Accord Hybrid. 10k miles so far with near 34 mpg and climbing. Quiet, roomy, responsive. One check engine light incident; otherwise, so far, so good, but it has a lot of Honda history to live up to.

1974 Civic - $2700 out the door. It was a fun little car to drive and handled especially well in snowy weather. I still remember driving it home from work during a blizzard. I was driving directly into a 60 to 80 MPH driving snow for about 45 minutes. When I pulled into my driveway the poor little Civic stalled and I pushed it into the garage. I opened the hood to have a look and the engine was incased in a block of ice. The next day it started fine.

1976 Accord - First year the Accord was made in a 2 door model only.

1978 Civic CVCC - Only one purchased used for a work car because I didn't want to drive my Acura Legend to work.

1982 Accord

1983 Prelude

1986 Acura Legend - First year for the Acura brand. Finally sold this car last year. Great handling car compared to some of the later Acura's.

2003 HCH - I really loved this car but my back didn't like the seats. LMPG 47.1 It finally felt fully broken in at 24,000 miles when I traded it.

2005 HAH - Possibly my last car and the best. Of course I said that about my HCH also.

Eight Honda vehicles to date:

1979 Honda Civic Hatch
1982 Honda Civic 1300FE (Wish I still had this one)*
1985 Honda Express 150 Scooter
1986 Honda CivicSi
1988 Accura Integra
1996 Honda Civic HX Coupe
2000 Honda Civic LX Sedan
2003 Honda Civic Hybrid

*I actually installed a JC Whitney trip computer in the 1300FE
(The one where you put a fuel flow sensor on the gas line and
magnets on the driveshaft!) This was back when 55mph was
the norm on the interstate. I was hypermiling to college via I-80
back in 1982!

Default Re: How many Hondas have you owned?

I've owned 12 or 13 cars since a teen back in the 70's and this is my 1st Honda. The next closest to it was a '72 Toyota station wagon which I had back in the early 80's.

The wagon's heater couldn't keep up with the Minnesota winter so I added an auxiliary one which I made from an old Ford Pinto and placed it in the back. Had to replace the distributer and later the steel clutch cable. The rear shock mounts rusted off and had a shop weld on some "new" ones.

The front fenders rusted real bad and once I had to pull off to the shoulder and stop to pick it up from the side of the freeway.

Other than that it was a good car and I had fun with it
