Talking Now I Know Why I Avoided The White Lake Marathon....

I've mentioned marathoning. Worn out from completing my first four and 3/4 of a fifth in six month - not near enough time to recuperate. So I did not run in the White Rock Marathon yesterday in Dallas - one of the biggest ones for wintertime. After I saw the sponsors on the finisher's shirts, I'm glad. Wish Honda was a sponsor like the LA Marathon (hint). See the sponsors here...

oh yuk!!! the runners probably get better mileage than the hummer.....

BTW i used to be heavily into marathons, more the production end, being on the board of Twin Cities Marathon many years ago. i also ran Grandma's Marathon twice, and the only thing i will say is that i finished the same day as everyone else......

Best fill 66.7 MPG, best tank 801.5 miles

I need to congratulate you for being part of one of the best marathons in America - Twin Cities.

Running a marathon at anytime is an accomplishment, laurie.

Feel free to come out to Phoenix for the PF Chang's Rock & Roll marathon. I hear it's a record-setter for many people since the weather's almost always perfect, we're only about 1200' ASL, and it's pretty much totally flat, so there's no hills or anything to deal with. Not that I run marathons or anything. I came to learn at an early age that I have genetically inferior knee cartilage and I hit my limit with 10K's at which point I start having weeks of pain and funny noises coming from my knees. Oh well!

I'm still struggling to see what Hummer's tie to a marathon would be though. Are they trying to sell the notion that buying a Hummer somehow makes you an outdoorsy type that goes and does athletic things? I'm sure they're not mutually exclusive, but I rarely see Hummers being driven by people who work out anything more than their cel phone.

Bill Rogers (former US marathon record holder) started running because someone stole his motorcycle and he still needed to get to work!

I chose my house because of the commute -- I have a good all weather bike route, also good for running or roller skiing (dry land xc ski training) to work. I wish I could ski on real snow right out the front door, like they do in Norway... driving to snow is seriously impacting my hypomiling (reducing miles).

I don't see any Hummers at the xc ski areas. Those folks all go to the downhill areas. Lots of Subaru's, an occasional hybrid. I did a running race this summer & I noticed a few others came on bicycles. I would guess that the average hybrid sedan driver is more active than the average large SUV driver.

I'd venture that more Hummer drivers look like couch potatoes than anything remotely like Arnold Schwartenegger.

I like to think the Insight personifies Lance Armstrong.

IMAhybrid,

Congratulations to your Dad for running in the Boston Marathon.

Since the 1970's they have had strict qualifying times to limit the participation to 20,000. For instance, you would have to finish another marathon in 3 hours fiften minutes to qualify.

I need to lose another 25 pounds to have a chance to be that fast...think of my running body as an Insight made with an iron-cast body.

If that's the case for you, I think my metaphorical Insight-Self-As-Running-Body is made of depleted uranium.

My New Year's resolutions are to eat light in 5-6 meals during the day.

My reference to an Iron-cast Insight is NOT to be confused with the Ironman Triathalon held in Hawaii. It's the longest of four types of triathalons. There are about two dozen or zo triathalons to qualify in the Ironman. Doubt I'll ever do it, but just reading it get me tired. In 18 hours, they:
  • bike 115-miles (a long day for the Tour de France)
  • run 26.2 miles (a marathon)
  • swim 2.4 miles in the ocean
....got to get a massage.
