Default Number of keys on your keychain?

I have way too much stuff on my keyring. I need one of those giant keyrings janitors have. The ring I have now is already bigger than normal ones but it's starting to become not big enough.
I've got:
a key to my house at home
a key to my dad's house
a key to my dorm room
a key to my school mailbox
a key to a trunk in my room
a key for the club for my car
a key to my car
the remote for my car
a swiss army knife with a light and a pen
a speedpass
a tire pressure gauge
and a carabiner

Good gravy, that's 12 things!
What about everyone else? Do any of you need, or already have, a giant janitor-like keyring?
I think what I really need is to split things up on to different keyrings... I don't need my house keys when I'm at school and visa versa. I don't need any of the car related things if I'm not driving.

I only keep my Prius key, in my pocket. The car has a garage door opener, so I don't carry a house key. My keychain is somewhere in the bottom of my laptop bag. It's got my wife's car key, an office key, the mailbox key, and a bottle opener.

car key, brake lock key (anti theft device), and house key all tied with a Cathy Pacific Airline neck tag which I wear all the time.

I try to follow the KISS (keep it simple stupid) principle.

i got around 20 km a liter when i drove a civic 5 spd using advanced hypermiler techniques
and now I drive a salvage nwh20 prius that gets almost to 25 km/l with 195,000 km to date.

Let's see:

FEH key and fob
house key
parents house key
Equipment cabinets
Office key (I really need to get rid of it, the office and the building doesn't exist anymore, I need to get around to safety and return it.)
TARDIS key

Six keys. Not bad, really, carry it around in my front pants pocket, doesn't really get in the way.

When I drove home with our '06 FEH, I did the proverbial key identification and switch.
  • '06 FEH key and fob
  • 1992 Toyota Corolla ignition key
  • House key to our place
  • House key to my parents' place
  • Key to our business P.O. Box

Keys removed:
* One unidentifiable key (to filing cabinet at former workplace?)
* Key to "The Club", which is the only form of "anti-theft" device I ever had in the Corolla; should go on my husband's keyring since he drives the Corolla more than I do now... but really, it's a 14 year old car. Locks are apparently enough.

Our home mailbox key is on its own ring and lives in the house so whomever has the urge can go get the mail.

My husband refers to my keyring as "the weapon". 'nuff said.

Every time I look through them to remove unnecessaries, I find that they are all basically necessary - office keys, house keys, car keys (only to the two that we're currently driving regularly), keys to local close relatives' houses that I need a few times a year (but never know when). I even keep the keys for a house I'm "keeping an eye on" while its owners are away separately, so they're not on "the weapon". But I do have the speedpass, small swiss army knife, and a tiny (but very bright) LED light on there.
