too bad it would've taken me a month to get it cross-country at 100miles/charge! It would be perfect. Oh- I don't have $45k either.

Green is good, But I will stick with my 500 miles to 11 gal, $27000 car rather that spend 45k for a vehicle 3yr old that can go 100 mi per charge for the prestige of full EV for CITY kw-hr/100 HWY kw-hr/100

charging at midnight. From midnight to 7am PG&E offers a reduced rate for EV owners. You can get the reduced rate by applying to PG&E, or whichever California utility you use. They will replace your meter with a Time of Use meter, which allows different rates to be in effect at different times of day. The discounted (E9) rate is then applied at night based on your actual usage, both to charge the EV and for any other nighttime use of power. I have calculated that my cost of electricity to charge the RAV4 EV is about half the cost of buying gasoline for a regular RAV4, perhaps a little less.
No offence but why would someone want to do this?

Many parking lots have EV ONLY spaces that are reserved for electric cars. These spaces are equipped with chargers that are free to use. There are some parking garages in California that allow you to park for free, only requiring that you first apply for a special parking permit.

There is also a network of EV owners who are willing to offer use of their home chargers to other EV owners in an emergency.
You can join that group and get the list of chargers at the evchargernews web site listed below.
Again why would someone want the trouble of taking a trip and having to do this? Hey buddy can I use your plug?

Now the real question is if its such a great EV car why are you selling it?

I don't understand. Why would I want to do what? It cost me nothing to get a new meter and apply for the E9 rate. I pay less for the elecricity to charge the car with the E9 rate. What's not to want?

Did you notice the word emergency? If for some reason you find yourself running low, with not enough charge to get back home, you can stop for a boost. I imagine that this can happen to EV owners about as often as owners of regular cars run out of gas. It's never happened to me, but it's good to know that there's a safety net.

As I noted in the auction, our driving patterns changed. We drive over to my daughter a lot, to see our grand kids. They used to live about 45 miles from us, which was within range. Then they moved about 10 miles farther which put them out of range.

As to why own one - three years ago the RAV4-EV was the only stock vehicle offered to the public that was eligible for car pool lane stickers. My wife commutes into San Francisco every day and the carpool lane saves her an hour on the round trip. Nowadays you get the same benefit with a hybrid.

I have read several posts on EV vehicles and I just was not impressed with the range of these vehicles..

And yes I would think driving a hybrid would save you money that you would notice in the first year especially if you owned 2 (his & hers).. I just dont get the idea of EV's, unless you don't drive far & when you do its in a suburb were everything is close by due to limited range..

The EV tech has gotten better, but the milage sure has not changed much since the 70's...

if electrovaya made their suv battery lithium car avaialble for public i'd pool my resources for it...

LOL yeah right i'd rather get a cheap hybrid instead.

i got around 20 km a liter when i drove a civic 5 spd using advanced hypermiler techniques
and now I drive a salvage nwh20 prius that gets almost to 25 km/l with 192,000 km to date.

I think you're right about that. The limited range, plus the charging time, makes it a non-starter for most people IMO. When I speak of charging time I mean that you need to charge it three hours for every hour of driving at freeway speed.

When I made these comments on a RAV4-EV forum a lot of people got upset with me. There are many people who are so enamored of their EVs that they are not very objective about their shortcomings.
