I don't think owning hybrid cars should be a partisan thing. I would hope, perhaps naively, that we could get some bipartisan support for something that's such a good idea on a basic level. I'm encouraged that there is a diversity of views in the poll so far, and I hope that no one feels alienated from the hybrid cause for political reasons.

Having said that, I am a Democrat and proud of it.

Default Hybrid Perception

For awhile, it was assumed bikers were hoodlums. As hybrids go more mainstream, the stereotype will also fade. I've suspected some of the bad treatment on the road is partially due to this perception I must be a GreenPeace member, etc...

For what it's worth, I've voted Republican since 1976, considered myself very conservative - until this administration. In an earlier generation, I would have been one of those southern conservative Democrats. I've looked at what policies are good for the nation more than giving business and the top 25 percentile the biggest breaks. This administration seems like a bad copy of Ronald Regan - the former used limited government to grow the middle class, while the latter is shrinking it.

I should have spelled it "Reagan" - I'm better at impersonating The Gipper than I realize.

I am a registered Green Party member. I'd register Socialist if I had the chance. Republican politicians are just front-ends for Big Business and Big Religion. They convince the poor that it's okay that all the middle-class jobs are being sent overseas. If you just keep hating gays, everything will work out just fine in the end.

I loathe almost everything the modern Republican party stands for.

if you can remain a loyal republican after the disasters (physical, economic, constitutional) put forward by this administration then i'd say you'd do well to read 'final exit'

I'm glad that there is such a diverse range of hybrid ownership that expands across all politcal parties and ideologies, which can help prevent sterotyping.

How does anybody here think the average Joe Public views us hybrid owners?
Hopefully not stereotyped into any paticular group like environmentalists, Republicans, Democrats, etc because it would turn away many potential future hybrid owners.

Amen.

We may be a pretty diverse group, not only in terms of politics, but also in terms of wealth, social orientation, religious preferences, and the like. I think the old image of us as a bunch of treehuggers is beginning to disappear, but there is still some of it abounding (perhaps because treehugging is part of our diversity?).

I detect a note of envy and guilt in the personal and journalistic attacks on hybrids and hybriders - as if they are trying to justify not having a FE and environmentally friendly (EF) vehicle. I also suspect that those people are not successful at their self-justification, or there would be no need to repeat the attacks.

Someone on this forum once posted the phrase: Hybriders are greenies, cheapies, and techies - pick any two. Some of us may be all three. I have picked up on that. There is not one basic reason for going hybrid, but several.

And in our diversity, we will collectively with our manufacturers and societies change the world in important ways.

I too am glad to see the diversity here. As a 'liberal' I assumed that most hybrid owners would also lean to the left, as this is the stereotype of hybrid owners. Upon further thought, hybrids could be viewed as a very patriotic choices of vehicle as they help decrease dependance on middle east fuel, although I haven't seen this addressed in the media.

Of course not. The media is filled with lefties

Heh. Just kidding there. Over all as far as the media is concerned hybrids are just a fad. They don't give any serious thought or investigation about them. This is why most media reports have many errors.
