Is the Alpine IVA-W200 a GPS/NAV unit??

I thought that unit was just a DVD player/radio etc???

The unit itself is "just" a DVD receiver, but it has tons of options, including IPod direct interface cable, XM module, Sirius module, HD Radio module, Bluetooth module, and the Blackbird portable GPS unit has a dock that transfers all display and control to the head unit and doesn't require a NAV disk in the head unit.

I have the Bluetooth and IPod interfaces for it currently and will be soon adding the Blackbird with it's dock.

I also really like being able to play an MP3 DVD with 40+ CD's worth of music on it. Between that and the IPod, I have no need for a CD changer.

Another update:

Alpine just announced at CES 2007 that they will be releasing newer units, the IVA-W205 and the Blackbird B200. The cool part about that setup is that the new Blackbird actually nests INSIDE the head unit. It will supposedly be available in May and the expected price is $899 for the IVA-W205 and rumors have the B200 at $399. I was just about to pull the trigger on the B100 so I think I'll wait and upgrade the whole thing.

I'm sure my wife will be happy as well since I'll probably put the IVA-W200 that I have now into her FEH.

I would be real nice if an aftermarket Nav system manufacturer, had a unit that would still accept the Hybrid info via the ACP interface, and display the graphics. I would gladly pay a $100 premium, for that feature.

It would, I'd love it. But unfortunately each manufacturer probably has their own scheme for encoding the information. The ScanGuage works because the Feds forced them to define an OBD interface that was a standard... I could see an aftermarket with an included OBD interface... but I fear we won't see any hybrid displays until there are a large number of hybrids out there. At this point, even if an aftermarket did it.... I'd bet they'd only bother supporting the Prius.
