That is the 2nd time in a year it has been replaced.

SG did not report a code; the dealer invoice indicated code 1239. I expect it can only be read via the SJB.

I'm still covered by my factory warranty, and in any case if it happens within a year, a failure like this is covered by the Ford parts warranty, but I'm wondering if other people have had this issue?
This is my first time trying to reply to a Thread. Hope this works.
I have a 2008 FEH with 48150 miles on it. Also, I - like many of you - got the yellow wrench light and dealer error code B1239. Dealer said blend air part for hybrid battery is not covered under warranty. I called Ford's customer hot line and Karen told me the same thing. I don't understand why some dealers cover it and some don't (maybe depends on the state you live in) but I am not happy that a $35 part that continues to fail as evidenced by many of you is not covered or isn't recalled. I labor costs are outrageous! Over $350 at my dealership.
This is a great web site for information. Thanks to all of you for your postings. Now I'm looking for a diagram or youtube video to help me change this myself.

If you do a search I believe you will find info that someone posted on the removal step. When I did mine I did not document the steps, however I did find that a 5.5 mm socket and wrench helps.

That labor cost doesn't sound right. The actual labor time is an hour or less, and I waited while they did mine. I'd ask for an explanation of that figure.

I agree that your labor charge was excessive. I changed mine and took my time as it was my first repair on this, and I still did it in an hour and a half. New part was genuine Motorcraft and cost was $20 at Rock auto.

If I replace mine again, I am leaving out the third, outboard most screw. This will speed up change out to about 15 minutes.

My Wrench kept lighting up as well, so I took it in to South Bay Ford where they charged me $125 for the assessment. After they were finished with the assessment, they quoted me $1,100 to replace the battery Blend Door motor and Electric Coolant Pump. And, also, suggested I have a host of other odds and ends done to improve performance for additional $$$. They insist that it is not covered by warranty, which shows that Ford does not stand behind their products. Definitely questioning whether buying a hybrid was a good decision. Too bad the quality isn't there, as the 2007 Ford Escap Hybrid is really a great commuting vehicle, otherwise. It is quite comfortable and fits my kids and stuff, but once I hit 50,000 miles I have been constantly fighting the Wrench light. I bought it in the summer of 2009 from CarMax, with 39,000 miles on it. Next time I'm going to buy a KIA or Honda.

Rocketvan, that sucks - I don't blame you for being teed off. If you are at all handy, it is easy to change out either of these items. If not, order the parts from Rock Auto or equivalent and take them to a good independent shop for installation. I'm pretty sure there is a step by step posted here or at Escape City that you can print out. Good luck.
