Changing First Screen On Navigation System

Re: Changing First Screen On Navigation System
Two items of note:
If you don't have the NAV DVD in an '08, it starts up to the media screen every time.
The NAV DVD is a Dual Layer DVD (DVD9). I'll be stopping by Staples to get some dual layer blanks sometime this weekend. I want to make a backup copy in case the original gets scratched up. I was able to make a DVD image file to burn later just in case.

Ok creating an ISO file was easy.
When I am burning the ISO to a dual layer DVD it errors out. Did you try burning one yet?
My employee said it was some sort off copy guard. We tried using a linux hack - no luck.

Re: Changing First Screen On Navigation System
The maps are pictures, and the voices are .MP3's so I think it would be cool to make a custom video or flash screen. How about a slide show of your kids or fav photos? It is possible, but I'm not computer geek enough to know how to do that.
I did figure out how to change the flash screen on a home DVD player once, so it would show a .jpg of my choice instead of the JVC logo or whatever... that was pretty cool. I have the CD-ROM versions for my car, and I can play back all the voices on my computer, but I can't see any maps or routes.

The maps and routes are stored in a database format. Then the data represents something on the screen. Thats how they can put so much on 1 dvd for the 2008's.
I was thinking more of some sexy ladies voice to guide me along the way, or some angry ladies voice yelling at me...that would make me feel more at home when I am driving by myself.

Re: Changing First Screen On Navigation System
I can confirm that the '08 will start on the nag screen if you have it on the "Menu" screens (since I'm constantly on the power management screen) when you shut off. It does not appear to come up if you shut off while in the music screens.
I can tell you that this is HIGHLY annoying and is not the way any other GPS works (that I'm aware of). I'm hoping that as the unit gets some age there will be a hack to get around this but I'm not holding my breath.
On a slightly related note, has anyone tried to make a backup copy of their NAV DVD (or CDs for you pre '08 owners) in case the original gets lost/stolen/scratched? I'd hate to have to pay $199 or whatever it is to replace it.
