I turn the key, it starts. I hit the brake, it stops. Who cares what happens in between. I paid them to think it through. Rather spend my time perfecting Shrimp Au Creole than car functions. You guys spend way too much time on this thing we call Hybrids. Put that energy pleasing your lady. Just Saying.

What if we have the resources to do all of that and more? Just saying.

Of course you can calculate rate-of-change from the tachometer, but it isn't an instantaneous reading like an accelerometer can do. I was just surprised that they would go tot he extra expense -- it must be that the instantaneous value is necessary to get the driver-experience that they want.

From the stuff that people have sent me so far, and aside from my snarky comment about Fred Flinstone above, it seems to me that this system is surprisingly complicated. They must be very confident of the reliability of all the components, since the MTBF must be much higher than with a simpler system otherwise.

I know how to cook. I like learning things. I like seeing how smart people are making an effort to use technology to reconcile capitalism with improving the world. I'm a ****-poor mechanic, but a good engineer. This is time well spent, although I agree you shouldn't neglect the loved ones.

MrCrank — I have added one additional PDF file, "Brake system description," to those I had already attached to post #2. This makes the description more complete.
