Default Gas Filler Flap Missing?

I thought there was a metal, spring loaded, flap in the mouth of the gas tank filler on the FEH. I just filled up and that flap is missing (if it was ever there). I see slots on the filler tube where I think it used to attach.

Seems like an emissions warranty issue if that flap has fallen into the tank. Anybody have any thoughts on this? Thanks.

My spring loaded flap in my '05 went in the tank also. I don't think it's an emissions issue because the cap is for that purpose. Call your dealer service adviser to make sure.

Last year, I replaced my 2006 FEH with a 2012 FEH, and was surprised to find that Ford eliminated the screw-on gas cap--the 2012 has just a metal flap, e.g., http://buyersguide.roadandtrack.com/...pen/333840/077 The gas cap may become a relic of the past, like the manual choke and the hand crank.

P.S., How many people remember to NEVER wrap your thumb around the hand crank?

I do because I own a vehicle with a crank start.

FWIW my gas cap disentigrated in my hand several months ago. It actually is made of several components making it waaaay over engineered.
A cheap generic one from AutoZone has been fine for months.

Does anyone have stated flap on theirs? I don't. I can't remember ever seeing one. Not sure if this is standard equipment or not.
