I have this unit.

I mounted the UV sensor on the side of the license plate holder ala frankenstein bolts even with the groove in the bumper. Drill a small hole though the plastic part to run wiring into the bumper before connecting the sensor wires up. I clipped the temp sensor to the bottom left radiator bracket.

I ran the wires along the interior of the engine compartment (behind 12V battery) and through the grommet with the parking brake cable. I tie wrapped it to whatever things are running in parallel to keep to secure and away from chaffing things.

After you remove the side A pillar moulding (pop off the caps in the handles and unbolt), you will see a wire channel to run the wires up to the headliner. You need to remove the sun shade to allow access to above the headliner as well. Cable tie them in and you will not see them. Route the wire over the headliner and down to the left side of the mirror to the connector.

You can flip down the glove box and tap power from the upper cigarette lighter (this one is switched). I cabled tied any excess (not a huge amount) to other wiring harnesses to avoid rattles.

I found a piece of 12ga solid wire invaluable for fishing the cables though places.

This setup works pretty good, except on real hot days when you are just sitting there "idle" the temp gets a little false heat rise from the pavement and/or the radiator. If you live in a non-snow area, you may want to move the sensor more forward of the radiator. I was worried about snow clunks wacking the sensor in the winter.

Good luck,
Dave

these are cool mirrors but Im not sure they are worth the money. I have never found those temperature guages to be terribly accurate - it is always a challenge to find a location that is not affected by the engine heat - even the one on my motorcycle located near the handlebars is usually off by up to 9 degrees.

If you have the Nav the compass direction is alway displayed anyway and though the autodimming is nice, its not hard to simply flip the mirror dimming lever.

For Homelink, Home Depot and others sell keyring fob sized garage door openers for about $20 that can provide a neat way to have a small opener in your car.

If I was going to put in a new mirror I might consider something that provides more useful functionality such as this cool Bluetooth mirror on Ebay (Search for item no 200018135393) that gives you rear reverse sensors with distance and also handsfree telephone dialing.

omg, this mirror rocks!!!! unbelievable technology.

the only thing I am concerned about is, does it have auto-dimming function? It lists "anti-glare and safety mirror function" but does it mean auto-dimming? If it does, then this is the perfect mirror.

I checked the price of Gentex (temp/compass) with homelink it's freaking $745 + $245 installation in Canadian dollar! That's almost $900 us for a rear view mirror, which is way overpriced?!

It has the "blue" type electrochomatic auto-dimmer. Works pretty fast compared to my other sample of older 1996 Jeep autodimmer.

Dave, which mirror are you referring to, is it the Exon, Gentex, or the Bluetooth one?

The only thing I don't like about that rear view mirror, is that it is a "clip on" and not a replacement mirror.

Yea, it's a shame that mirror uses that funky clip-on system instead of being a true replacement mirror.

Personally, I wouldn't give up my Gentek mirror because I like/need the outside temp & mine is very accurate after I experimented with sensor placement.

I added back-up sensors to my 05 FEH although I don't really need them now as I added a very cool full color back-up camera to my in-dash Eclipse NAV unit.

I just talked to the rep at the dealership, she said that if I install an aftermarket non-Ford certified mirror, they will VOID my warranty on ALL electrical components in my car COMPLETELY!!!

In this case, I guess the fancy Bluetooth mirror AND the auto-dimming compass/temp/uv/ice mirrors found here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/AUTO-...22043895QQrdZ1
are OUT OF MY CONSIDERATION completely?

I can tell you 100% that the dealer can not do that. I have worked in car dealers for years, & the dealer would have to prove the modification caused the specific problem you where having before they could legally deny you warranty work.

Or they would have to claim you abused the vehicle. For example, racing is considered abuse. If one put hi-performance mods onto, say, a Mustang, the dealer could successfully claim that if you installed them, you must be using them and therefore been "racing". The same goes for serious off-roading parts on a Jeep.

However, I could not envision that a rear view mirror could ever, successfully, be claimed as evidence of abuse.

IMHO, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act would be on your side in this case.
