I have confirmed that the part 7L2Z-14A626-BA (Remote Entry Keypad) will work on the 2008 FEH (others here appear to be using a different model as well but I didn't see a part number).

My wife bought and configured this for me with nothing more than the included instructions.

Remote lock/unlock and lift gate glass control just like the key fob. Use either one personal or the factory 5 digit code. I especially like the remote locking feature, just press 7/8 and 0/9 at the same time to lock all doors. No need to put in the code for this lock command. Unit comes with a standard black cover and a paint-to-match primer cover.

I too bought a 2008 FEH and it did not come with the keypad. My local Ford Dealer installed one in minutes-yes it is the kind that sticks to the door. As for why have a keypad-how about those of us who accidently lock their keys in the car????? How about those of us who have kids and they leave their "whatever" in the car and they can pop out to the car and grab it. In addition, sometimes I need to put some things in my car at work and instead of having to go to my locker and get my keys, I can just pop open the door quickly without having to make the extra trip down to my locker. All in all I find it incredibly convenient and those of you who think it is uselss-remember that when you are waiting for the
locksmith or annoyed spouse to come and unlock your car!! Much easier and cheaper than having a spare key made up and finding a place to hide it.

We use our keypad on our '07 FEH (and our other vehicles) all the time. It's especially handy when it's parked and somebody from the family needs to drop something off or get something out of the car. We don't have to give our keys or fobs to the kids that way. My hunting buddy also knows the code so that if he needs to get in to get some of his gear while I'm still in the woods he can do that as well. It's also come in VERY handy when I was out in the middle of NOWHERE and locked my keys in the back. (who needs on-star? all I had to do is enter my code !!)

BTW, our dealer said they wouldn't work either -- He wouldn't even try to install one, so I ordered one off of Ebay and it works great.

I use my keypads (I actually have one installed on each front door) all the time. When I am at work, I lock the keys in the truck on purpose & then let myself in with the pad so I don't have to keep track of the keys at work.

I actually installed the first pad after my Wife had to drive 17 miles to bring me a key after I accidentally locked the keys inside the tailgate.....I had locked the truck using the remote & then layed the keys down in the back as I unloaded a bunch of football gear for my son & his buddies.

As soon as I shut the TG I realized immediately what I had done, but since I didn't want to break in I was stuck.....

Decided to install the keypad because I have a vacation house waaaay out in the country and could be screwed big-time if I lock in my keys. Already did it once and after waiting an hour + for the tech to arrive, watched in horror as he used an inflatable balloon to pry the door away from the jamb...luckily he didn't ruin the seal between the window gasket and the car frame, but at one point I had to literally physically remove the tool from his hand to prevent him from doing so...

I just ordered from here:

http://www.teamfordparts.com/partloc...catalogid=5300

ON SALE for $75, arrived in about two days, now sitting comfortably on the driver side of my FEH after about three seconds of fiddling with the ignition key to sync it with the computer. The directions are clear as a bell and a piece of cake to follow, even for the non-mechanically-inclined. The *only* issue for me was where to place the keypad (went for slightly above and to the right of the door handle, thanks to the curvature of the door where it meets the window well. Thought about somewhere less obtrusive in case the battery wears out and I have to pry it off, potentially peeling the paint, but decided to risk it.)

I couldn't be happier. THANK YOU GreenHybrid people!!

I mounted mine in exactly the same spot you describe. I also had some concerns about the battery wearing out, and then what?? But Like you, I took my chances. Hope we can both report back in 10 years that the battery is still running.

P.S. Read in your other post that your starter problem is fixed. Something abt a bad connection. Glad it's finally working

Here's where I put mine. It's partially hidden and out of the way. It doesn't break up the symmetry for the side of the car and shouldn't get as much weather/sun damage. It does take a little more thought when pressing the buttons without seeing the pad but we adjusted quickly. I love that the 7/8-9/0 button combo locks all the doors.

The Genuine Ford Accessory part number I'm using on my '08 FEH is 7L2Z-14A626-BA. It's labled TRANSMITTER ASSY-VEH ENTRY Contents made in USA

Paid $75 from the dealer before taxes. Wife programmed it and said it was easy to do.

Aww dang it Chris... now you can't convert to a plug-in hybrid!
That is where the plug normally goes!
-John

( P.S. since I don't have a plug-in either, I may get one and do what you did! Thanks for the photo! )

I'll be glad to relocate it if I can ever afford to go plug-in...
