Maintenance Plans and PremiumCARE

Maintenance Plans and PremiumCARE
Okay folks, I am about the pick up my '06 FWD FEH and I am freaked & confused! I have two questions and I would greatly appreciate any assistance:
1. Did you purchase the Maintenance Plan (Premium) from Ford? If so, why and also, if you don't mind, please share how much you paid?
2. Did you purchase the PremiumCARE extended warranty and why? Also please share if comfortable for you- how much you paid?
I am so happy I found this space
-O.

Re: Maintenance Plans and PremiumCARE
I bought my '06 FWD FEH last week in Norfolk, VA. I opted to add the 5 year 48000 extended warranty for $795 with a $50 deductible. I bought it because I plan on keeping this for 5 years and my last car ('03 Saab POS!) had a 4 year standard warranty which came in handy.

Re: Maintenance Plans and PremiumCARE
Extended warranties can be purchased within the first year of your new vehicule (sometimes even later). They can be purchased in any state regardless of where you are living. Busy Urban centers markup these warranties considerably, so do not be afraid to shop in other states such as Idaho, if you live in California. If you receive a quote online from a dealer, I bet your local dealership will either match it or bargain downwards. Remember, the dealers purchase these warranties from the manufacturer for only a couple hundred dollars and then they mark it way up. Also, do not fall for the "you must buy the warranty at this dealership or within the same state". This is not true. Ford will honor any valid extended warranty, no matter which dealer you purchased it from. Hope this helps.

Re: Maintenance Plans and PremiumCARE
I have the Mariner Hybrid, and I did not purchase any extended care or warranty.
In every study I have seen the conclusion was that for the average person the cost of the warranty or extended care plan exceeded the savings. If there is some premium, e.g., full scheduled maintenance is covered, you might wish to consider it but be sure to calculate the cost versus the benefits.
Best of luck with your FWD FEH. I suspect you will be very happy with it.

O:
We purchased the Protection Package, the Maintenance Plan, and an extended warranty from Ford. The Protection Package was $335 and included a protective wax on the exterior paint, protective coating on the interior carpets for stains and such, and a special leather treatment on all of the seats. It also included a package of liquids, shami, and carwashing mitt for use down the road (they recommend against using other soaps like dish detergent to wash the car). Its guaranteed, e.g.: if they can't get a stain out of the carpet they will replace the carpet for free. If I hired a detailer for a day and bought the package of stuff it would cost about the same anyway.
The Extended Warranty was $1,820 and was 6-years/75,000 miles. We figured with the new technology this will pay for itself if the eCVT or any other system goes drastically south in the next 6 years. We may also extend it after that too. Our '99 Tahoe blew its torque converter at 34,000 miles just before the 3 Year Bumper-Bumper warranty ran out. Four days and thousands of dollars later we were glad we were covered (it threw a water pump on our extended warranty as well). The hybrid system is warranted for 8 years/100,000 miles even without this. The sophistication of the electrical components makes the extended warranty more attractive as well. Cars these days have features that I couldn't foretell 8 years ago.
Ford Care Maintenance was $1,345 and covers through the 90,000 mile interval. I wasn't decided on this but my wife wanted to have it to avoid future expenses for oil changes, belts, wipers, etc. The last time I stopped by a "Jiffy Lube" they inadvertently pulled the return hose from my radiator. I caught it when I saw coolant all over the place a few days later. I can do things myself but its a hassle and my time is also worth something to me. Plus, our Ford dealer is practically just down the street (almost as close as Jiffy Lube) and they will use genuine Motorcraft parts and ensure that the vehicle stays compliant with warranty requirements.
My employer purchases Ford vehicles for their fleet, so as an employee I got X Plan prices on these packages - they would have charged us more. The only thing we didn't get was Lojack ($615). I truly believe you can negotiate these prices down even further if you want. Our financial picture was such that it made sense for us to include all this now knowing it would save us money down the road. In six years time our financial picture will again be much brighter than even now. We like to buy our cars new but drive them for a long time (8-10 years) so this covers us for most of that stretch. And by then who knows how our cars, our freeways, and our entire transportation system will have transformed!

Re: Maintenance Plans and PremiumCARE
First of all, welcome to GH.
Feels like I just answered this question. (https://www.greenhybrid.com/discuss/...ions.6492.html)
Anyway, yes, I did, but I own my vehicle, and intend to own it for a decade or so.

Re: Maintenance Plans and PremiumCARE
just remember that the price of extended warranties is also negociatiable. I will talk to the finance person before completing the purchase of the car and let them know that I will not purchase the car there unless I can get satisfactory terms from him. This helps to put some of the "pressure" on the finance person to give me a reasonable deal, and the car salesman becomes my "ally".
I purchased a 6 yr. 75,000 mile premium plan with $0 ded for $1500.
I hope that was a reasonable price. Was it?

Re: Maintenance Plans and PremiumCARE
I purchased the Premium 6yr/100K Ford ESP with $100 deductible for $1845.
Primary reason for going with the Premium was to get coverage for the SAT/NAV headunit (very expensive item); not covered in the plan below the Premium.
Also, since I live in a Green State (Massachusetts, along with CA, ME, NY and VT), Ford is required to provide warranty protection for the hybrid battery for 10yr/150K miles (compared to the 8yr/80K std).
I saw it in very small print in the 06 FEH brochure, bottom of page 12.
