I think something is getting lost in the Metric translation!

Is it Imperial Gallons ( which are larger ) an not U.S. gallons perhaps?

Still, that converts to 41 MPG City U.S. and 35 MPG Hwy U.S. gallons.

Canada's testing does not equal U.S. testing apparently.

No, you will not get that good of MPG.

See?
Yes those are CA numbers using imperial gallons. The focus is on the more-meaningful L/100km numbers.

CDN test methods are different, as well, tending to skew hybrids high like pre-2008 US EPA methods. Prius scores 71/67 on the Canadian test vs 48/45 on the US EPA test. Honda Fit scores 40/50 vs 28/34 EPA.

Production runs for many Fords use an alpha in the "last six" to denote build sequence. Early production Escapes were KA, the next batch was KB, and so on. Hugoland's guess about this is correct, explaining why his came as a KC while VI's is a later build and is a KD. I noticed the FEH on display at the Denver Auto Show last week was a KE so it's safe to assume it was built more recently.

This can be handy when shopping for certain things. For example, KA (and maybe KB too) cars should lack steering wheel audio controls. If you're shopping online for a used one and really want later-production features, don't look at vehicles with early VINs. Also, IIRC someone once said that there was a mid-year change to something affecting crash-test results. KA vehicles will have the lower crash score.

My FEH built on 07/23/07 is a KB. It does have the 4-star crash rating (per the window sticker) and no rollover rating.

It's also lacking the steering wheel audio controls (which I fear will reduce my chances of being Sync capable).

Aww, that sucks! Mine with has a KD serial and a "Produced Date" of 3/15/08 ... the window sticker specifically says "Steering Wheel w/ Audio Controls.

Interesting on the crash ratings - mine has different ratings for:

Front Crash, Driver (4-star)
Front Crash, Passenger (5-star)
Side Crash, Front Seats (5-star)
Side Crash, Rear Seats (5-star)
Rollover (3-star)

Do they also report all five of those in the sates?

Yes, I just didn't mention the others. The early production 2008 had a 3-star Front Crash -Driver rating, but there was a change fairly quickly and it went to 4-stars (maybe the KB designator was the start?). All other ratings were 5-star all along.

The Rollover rating on mine is listed as "Not Rated". I'd be interested if the later production vehicle's US window stickers have a rating listed. I would expect the 3-star to carry over from your CA sticker. I'm also interested in seeing if that rating changes for the 2009 since they will be adding AdvanceTrac-RSC.

It's finally here!

I got the call from my salesman this afternoon, I go in tomorrow morning at 10am to pick up my FEH!!

... I had to drive by the lot tonight to see if I could look through the windows at the interior. As we cruised around it was no where to be seen - until my girlfriend spotted it in the showroom. It was great to see it sitting there with the hood up.

This is the first hybrid the dealership has sold, so I hope they are taking a good look and planning on selling more!

Anyways, I'm really excited and I just had to tell someone - I think my girlfriend is getting a little tired of hearing about it.

Showroom treatment... nice! Congratulations.

Hope you enjoy the day but remember that even the manual says not to expect high MPG numbers in the first 2000 miles.

Jill: I know it's strange - that's why I was asking. You can see the window sticker for yourself, I posted it on this thread.

So far, on my first 192Km, the nav system tells me I'm averaging 7.4L/100Kms. That's mostly city driving but I did take out a couple times to see what it would do on the highway. (My buddy was really impressed with the power and acceleration, so was I actually)

Which without being familiar to that system is 30 something MPG U.S.

Exactly where it should be!
