If you study the tread patterns of the tires, the Rugged Trail has more of an all-terrain type tread that will probably have more noise than the other two, which may be ok if you drive in conditions that need it. If you're looking for a really good highway/street tire, I would avoid the Rugged Trail. Notice it does not have the same treadwear warranty that other tires have.
BFG and Michelin are of the same parent company, so their products should be of similar quality.

 

Well, after what I consider an exhaustive search, I have chosen the BF Goodrich Long Trail T/A Tours for my vehicle (they will go on today). I went to the Ford dealer yesterday and they are indeed putting Michelin Latitude Touring tires on the '09's but I just can't fork out the $$$ at this time. I looked at the reviews (from tirerack.com) on the BFG's and except for a few, all were very happy with the ride and traction. Final price with a $70 rebate from discounttire.com was $519 "out the door" which includes lifetime repair, balancing and rotation. Now the true test will be MPG. I'll post results once I get a tank or 2 of driving. Right now without any attempt at squeezing extra MPG (just drive it like regular car and A/C on all the time) I'd say average is 32 mpg. Hopefully I'll get a better ride without losing too much fuel efficency.

 

Don't forget the part of the math that includes the difference in FE (1-4mpg?) you might get from some models of tire over 50,000 miles at whatever price you might estimate for gas over the next few years. Might come close to the difference in upfront cost.

 

Hmm, I'm getting close on my '05 as well (about 46k miles) and was considering Nokian WRG2 as an LRR replacement with better wet traction than the Contis. We had a set of the previous WR model on our Prius and except for the fact that the Prius chewed through them in 30k miles (like it has every tire we've put on it) they were great performers.

The WRG2 is supposedly also made with low aromatic oils which are supposed to pollute less as the tire wears.

Anyone have experience with either the WR or the WRG2 on the FEH?
