You've heard of indoor rock climbing walls at some gyms?
This could be indoor rock climbing for your car!

Dude, it looked like a powerline R-O-W for Pete-Sakes, not the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Besides that, I haven't seen any requirements hybrid owners had to worship AlGore at the Holy Sierra Club Temple. Quit being so ****, diversity is a good thing. (hmmm...will i get another infraction for the anti al gore 'tude)

Nope - the 96 Jeep Cherokee I sold to buy my HCH2 got really low FE both on and off road... Tough for any vehicle (including FEH, MMH) to get any FE in 4 low.

If Jeep produced a 4x4 that got 35mpg+ I would probably have one.

Dude it's attitudes like yours and the guy in the video that get trails and the rights of way to the trails closed. When I was into off roading around here I saw several trails closed because of dumb asses who couldn't keep thier trucks on the trail and their garbage in the truck.

But then it would be as much of a Jeep as a compass.

So how is the FEH for off road?

The main thing that concerns me is not so much the uphill but the downhill ride. There is no transfer case, so how effective is the "L gear" setting? If I have to ride the brakes, what happens when the regenerative braking fills up the battery? Am I going to end up burning up the break pads?

I suppose I'll find out myself soon enough, but any heads up or tips would be appreciated.
If you look through the FEH member photos section you will see some off roading pics:

Myself I have not taken my MMH out for a "see what this can do" session yet. Knowing that there have been a few trails I have been on that got to where you need to be on a ATV to continue & need to back out up a steep rough hill slowly to get back out, I think I want to see what I can & can't do in an area I know I can get out of instead of getting stuck & waiting for someone with a wench to pull me back out.

This weekend I was backing into the driveway with our small trailer loaded with a wopping 6 sheets of plywood. I got to where I was stopped with the front 2 wheels against the curb. I got the engine stall John mentioned. Petal to the metal & going nowhere. Went forward just a bit & then backward. That time it was just fine.

I also have noticed that when you are stopped in EV mode you can floor it & the ICE will come back on. Sometimes handy when you don't want that slight lag such as waiting to make a left turn & want full power when there is an opening.

On your question about the regen braking, once although at highway speeds coming down a long canyon I did get to where the battery was full & the ICE was spun up to provide engine braking. Even in L absolutly no regen at that point, just the ICE spinning with 0 fuel being used.

Hope some of this babbling help!
